Come together – show your colours!

This is the motto of the 16th World Gymnaestrada 2019, which is getting started in Dornbirn on 7 July. The international event will be bringing a splash of colour, sports and dance to western Austria until 13 July.

Vorarlberg already hosted the World Gymnaestrada 2007 twelve years ago. Austria’s westernmost state made an impression with its local hospitality, natural beauty and good organisation. Now the city of Dornbirn will again welcome more than 20,000 guests from more than 60 nations. The world gymnastics festival is held in a different city every four years and is one of the largest sporting events in the world.

The World Gymnaestrada is all about the similarities among the global gymnasts – what connects them, friendship, opportunities and openness. Age, sex, talent, religion and social status don’t matter! Group shows, national demonstrations, special evenings, the FIG gala and the opening and closing events will be held in various locations.

What is the role of the Vienna House Martinspark Dornbirn?
The centrally located hotel in the heart of the city is host to some of the officials. In this time, guests from Finland, Austria, Brazil, South Afrika and France will be treated to a fabulous stay in Austria’s first architecture hotel. The athletes themselves will be accommodated in so-called “nation villages” in the Rhine Valley.

Bread & Hospitality: The Rainbow Project is raising money for people from less affluent countries. Because not all of the gymnasts can finance their participation themselves. When buying a host loaf in the regional bakeries, 50 cents per loaf of bread purchased will go to the Rainbow Project. The host loaf is a pure spelt wheat bread baked especially for this purpose.

The mascot Dorli (a white cow with coloured splotches) is a clear reference to the agricultural wealth of the region, while the colourful splotches represent openness and diversity. A special song written for the 16th World Gymnaestrada was also released as a music video with images from Dornbirn and the surrounding area.
