The Czech (and Slovak) nations are celebrating 100 years since the founding of Czechoslovakia: 100 years of independence, inventions, architecture and primarily stories that are waiting to be discovered, not only during the huge celebration events this autumn.

Renovated National Museum – from 27 October
The reopening of the National Museum, which has been undergoing full renovation and restoration since 2011, has deliberately been planned to coincide with the grand exhibition on the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia and 200 years since the founding of the museum. The exhibition will bear the simple and clear title Czech-Slovak / Slovak-Czech Exhibition 2018. If you want to know more about these two beautiful countries when they were still united, this is the perfect opportunity to do so.

Made in Czechoslovakia – The Industry that Ruled the World – from 18 October
The exhibition Made in Czechoslovakia at the National Technical Museum brings to life the stories of notable Czechoslovak firms and leading figures of Czechoslovak technology and industry, of fascinating phenomena and distinctive products that became household names in Czechoslovakia and abroad. The exhibitions present the technical and industrial progress of Czechoslovakia as such, from its inception in 1918 until 1992, when the country split up.

Large-scale military parade – 28 October – 2 PM
Are you into parades? One of the highlights of the centennial celebrations of Czechoslovak statehood will be a military parade. The festive parade and air show, the biggest in Central Europe, will take place on Prague’s longest street, Evropská boulevard, just next to the Vienna House Diplomat Prague. A total of 2,000 soldiers, firefighters, police officers and rescue workers, operating more than 200 military vehicles, including Gripen fighter jets, Aero L-159 Alca subsonic attack jets, T-72M4CZ tanks and Pandur armoured personnel carriers, will take part in the show.

Four apartments by Adolf Loos
Discover the beauty of an apartment interior designed by Adolf Loos, a legend of modern architecture of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Loos often stayed in Plzeň (the capital city of the famous Czech beer) and during that time he implemented the reconstruction of the so-called Brummel House and 13 apartment interiors that experts consider to be the best jewels not only of Plzeň, but of 20th century European architecture in general. You can see some of them on three guided tours of four apartments. The tour could give you a feel for design in the First Republic.

100 Years, 100 Masterpieces / 100 Artists, 100 Destinies – from 27 October
The exhibition 100 Years, 100 Masterpieces / 100 Artists, 100 Destinies at the Karlovy Vary Art Gallery celebrates the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia. It consists of 100 works by Czech and Slovak artists from the last one hundred years from the gallery’s collections. Every year from 1918 to 2017 is represented by a masterpiece related to that year (birth, death of the artist, date of the work, etc.). The exhibition offers unexpected juxtapositions between artists and works representing various generations and styles. As a special anniversary gift, admission will be free on 28 October.
