A small town with a big heart, a pearl on the Danube, the city with the oldest park in Central Europe. These are just some attributes that make the Slovak capital so unique. The city enchants with its diversity, rich history and culture. This is Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.
From the farm straight to the table
The city is full of culinary treats and world-class cuisine. The biggest gourmets will be satisfied and even vegetarians and vegans won’t go hungry. The global trend of a healthy lifestyle is spreading through the streets of the Slovak capital.
Vienna House Easy and many other Bratislava restaurants are committed to protecting the environment. You can see this in many ways, from using less plastic to environmentally friendly detergents in the kitchen. The waste is separated, too. Ecological, organic, raw – that’s no longer just a philosophy of Western European countries, it is a trend that has become familiar here as well.
Insta photo as a new art
Directly in the city centre on Pánska Street no. 23, you’ll find a small café by the name of Five Points. Besides traditional coffee, desserts, snacks and drinks, it offers one specialty in particular: the selfieccino. This is a special cappuccino with your own photo that can be prepared for you in just a few minutes. The interior of the café is kept in a hipster style and is really cool. Whether you choose to go there with friends or family, you will definitely spend a nice day at Five Points #hiddensecret
Bratislava full of runners
Slovaks are very skilled athletes, no doubt about it. Several Slovak tennis players, ice hockey players, footballers, swimmers and many others have conquered the sport-world.
The whole country does sports. This is why 2019 is rich in running events. Everyone can be a part of these events, both locals as well as tourists.
The season officially kicks off with the Bratislava marathon in March. The run across the city is a good opportunity to do something for your health and to enjoy previously unknown and undiscovered places. The run on Devin is planned for April. September belongs to women. The special run in high heels is already an annual tradition. The city also organises other runs like the night run or the DM run. So go do something for yourself.
Healthy is the new lifestyle
Did you know that traditional Slovak bread can also be healthy?
For “light” food lovers, here is a special recipe for zucchini bread that can be prepared at home.
Ingredients:
- 380 g spelt flour
- 3 eggs
- 350 g of finely chopped zucchini
- 125 ml of olive oil
- 80 g of pine nuts
- Baking powder
- One teaspoon of salt
It’s really quite simple!
Cut the zucchini into slices. Add the pine nuts into a blender and process them into a powder. Whip the eggs in a bowl. Add the zucchini, olive oil and processed pine nuts. Sift the spelt flour, add the salt and baking powder and stir well.
Stir the flour into the zucchini mixture. Put the mixture in a heatproof bowl and bake in the oven for 55 to 60 minutes at 180°C. Enjoy!
