EXPERIENCE CARLSBAD

Named after the the Roman-German Emperor Charles IV, the world famous Bohemian spa town of Carlsbad (Czech: Karlovy Vary) in the west of the Czech Republic was raised to the status of Royal City in 1370. The hot springs have been in use since the Bronze Age. Today, the site offers over 120 attractions and is still a popular spa resort.

  • CARLSBAD WATER

In Carlsbad, almost everything revolves around water. In various places, the water gushes out from the ground at different temperatures. The biggest and most famous spring is the carbonated mineral water spring at the white colonnades. In total there are 16 springs in seven colonnades. For a drinking cure at home, there is the Carlsbad spring salt.

  • CULINARY CARLSBAD

Carlsbad is home to some specialities that are known far beyond the country's borders. One example is the Carlsbad wafer. This sweet pastry, available in different flavours, is a popular souvenir. The herbal liqueur Becherovka was invented in Carlsbad and, as a joke, it is popularly known as the healthiest mineral spring of the spa resort.

  • CARLSBAD SINTER

The hot underground waters that rise to the surface in Karlovy Vary bring with them a huge amount of mineral substances. As water evaporates, sinter or hot-spring tufa is formed. During an excursion of the colonnade underground, you will be able to see with your own eyes the actual tuff-coating of various items (Carlsbad roses belong among well-known souvenirs).

  • ACTIVE CARLSBAD

Those wishing to explore the Carlsbad surrounds can take a trip on foot or by bike to the picturesque Egertal. Tepla Monastery in the city of Tepla is well worth a visit. Equally unmissable is a trip to the historic old town of Loket with its imposing 13th century castle.

  • ENCHANTING CARLSBAD

The Moser glass works will enchant you with hand-cut and hand-blown glassware from unleaded crystal. Visit the glass works, the glass museum and theart gallery. The butterfly house in Carlsbad is home to over 30 different species of butterflies from around the world. The often very colourful and delicate insects fly around among the visitors.
