EXPERIENCE WUPPERTAL

Conveniently located between Duesseldorf and Cologne, the green city of Wuppertal, or 'Grossstadt im Grünen', is the cultural, economic, industrial and educational centre of the region known as the Bergisches Land. 

  • WUPPERTAL SCHWEBEBAHN RAILWAY

    Suspended 12 metres above the ground, and an iconic part of the city's public transport network, the legendary Wuppertal Schwebebahn (overhead railway) carries around 85,000 passengers every day along 13 kilometres of track. All aboard! Tuffi the elephant is a popular souvenir, in the 50th he took the railway for promotion, but got a panic and fell into the river, without getting hurt.

  • WUPPERTAL ART & CULTURE

    Take a stroll through the Waldfrieden sculpture park, founded by sculptor Tony Cragg, and enjoy the world-class contemporary exhibits. Or pay a visit to the extensive Von der Heydt Museum, with its collection spanning the 16th century to the present. And any visitor to Wuppertal should experience contemporary dance at the Tanztheater Pina Bausch. 

  • ENJOY WUPPERTAL

    Wuppertal – has two pleasant centres – Bramen and Elberfeld. The Rathaus Galerie with its daily market, and the modern City Arkaden are popular with visitors and locals alike. Shoppers should head for the Luisenviertel quarter and the Werth, Bramen's shopping street, for food and retail therapy. Tip: try the traditional "Bergische Kaffeetafel". 

  • GREEN WUPPERTAL

    With its gardens, parks and woods, and a network of hiking paths covering nearly 500 kilometres, it's not surprising Wuppertal is often referred to as 'the big green city'. The beautifully landscaped Wuppertal Zoo is home to some 4,500 animals. And don't miss the Botanical Gardens with their wide variety of plants and flowers.

    The Bergisches Land that surrounds the city offers all kinds of sport and leisure possibilities. Cycling and hiking tours will take you through picturesque landscapes and idyllic country villages.
