When staying in Opatija, a visit to Volosko is a must. Enjoy a relaxing walk along the Lungomare coastal promenade, with beautiful views and the sound of breaking waves, and in less than 30 minutes you will discover a small and authentic fishing village with lots of excellent places to eat.
Moho: Super tasty pizza!
This picturesque place is the hometown of world-famous seismologist Andrija Mohorovičić, who discovered the existence of the boundary – called Moho – that separates the Earth’s crust from the mantle. Moho also is the name of a pizzeria located at the harbour, just a few steps from the sea. Pizza lovers will adore the taste and the kids will enjoy the chef’s creativity.
Plavi Podrum: One of the best restaurants in all of Croatia
If you are on a tour of the S. Pellegrino 100 Best Restaurants in the World, then book a table at Plavi Podrum. This restaurant, one of the best restaurants in Croatia for decades, is synonymous with professionalism, quality and luxury. Plavi Podrum is managed by Daniela Tariba Kramarić, Croatia’s best sommelier. Ask her to recommend a wine for you and admire her knowledge.
Local flavours
So you’re a fan of local flavours and authentic cuisine? Then leave the harbour behind and explore the narrow lanes with their tiny houses. On the main street of Volosko (not large enough to be two-way), you will see a small konoba called Valle Losca. Valle Losca is one of these places with a soul, excellent home-made pasta and staff that will pamper you like your mother would after not seeing you for half a year. Try the fuži (a kind of pasta) with truffles and shrimps and enjoy some truly heavenly tastes.
Ready for dessert?
Hopefully you’ve left some room for dessert because you can’t leave Volosko without visiting the patisserie Kaokakao. The combination of a contemporary French and Italian approach to pastry work with Croatian culinary identity have resulted in fifteen irresistible cakes (including vegan cakes)!
