  • STROLLING THROUGH EKATERINBURG

The Plotinka - meaning "the dam" - was the first structure to herald the industrial age in Ekaterinburg. Today, the dam is very popular with locals and visitors for a stroll along the canal that flows within the dam.

  • EKATERINBURG CELEBRATES

Ekaterinburg is noted for its innovation and creativity. This is also indicated by the range of fairs and festivals that take place throughout the year in this major city. They include the International Industrial Fair INNOPROM, the Ural Industrial Biennale, the International Puppeteer Festival Petrushka the Great, and also the International Clown Festival, which takes place every autumn.

  • EKATERINBURG CULTURE

Ekaterinburg is said to be one of the cultural strongholds of Russia. It has a large number of theatres in which operas, ballets and comedies are performed, as well as a philharmonic orchestra. The city is also home to a permanent circus and a zoo along with a great variety of museums. The best known of these is the museum park for the mining industry in the central Ural region.

  • ROYAL EKATERINBURG

For fans of the Russian monarchy, the "Church on the Blood in Honour of All Saints" is an authentic pilgrimage site. The cathedral was built on the site of the Ipatiev House, where the last Russian Czar Nicholas II and several members of his family were held captive.

  • HISTORIC EKATERINBURG

The Shigir Idol, originally five metres high, was carved with stone tools and is 9,500 years old - twice the age of the pyramids of Giza. It is proof of the fact that the region around Ekaterinburg was inhabited far earlier than had long been thought. You can marvel at this unique artefact in the Sverdlovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore in Ekaterinburg.
