Explore Stuttgart-Vaihingen

Vaihingen is a district in southwestern Stuttgart. Characterised by the famous Swabian business sense, Vaihingen is defined by education and entrepreneurship. To the south, the countryside opens to picturesque villages, rolling hills, expansive deciduous forests and orchards.

THE EXACT LOCATION

The Stuttgart region is one of the strongest business locations in Europe. A leader in high-tech and research, the region has set global standards in the automotive and engineering sectors. Swabians are considered to be thrifty, industrious and clever – and it was probably these characteristics that have made the region so successful. Quality pays off.

  • Highlights in Stuttgart

Wilhelma is Germany’s only zoological-botanical garden with more than 9,000 animals. Tip: take advantage of the discounted evening rates during the summer months. The Weissenhof Estate is a flagship of modern architecture. Castle Solitude is a beautiful Rococo palace not far from the picturesque Bärensee lake and Bärenschlössle villa. Exploring the city centre? Don’t forget to include Schlossplatz and the surrounding palace buildings.

  • High-horsepower enjoyment

Two of the most famous automotive brands in the world, Mercedes and Porsche, call the Stuttgart region their home. Discover everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the brand with the three-pointed star at the Mercedes-Benz Museum Stuttgart. In Zuffenhausen, Porsche has put up an impressive architectural monument to its sportscars – designed by architects from Vienna. A special feature of the Porsche Museum is that the exhibitions are constantly being updated so that there’s something new to discover every time.

  • Perfect for after work

Feuersee, with its many restaurants and festivals and the imposing church, is a great place for after work. Perhaps to just watch the turtles that live in the lake. Or is it beach feeling in the city you’re looking for? Then Sky Beach Stuttgart is the place for you. Here you can enjoy your cocktail with your feet in the sand high above the rooftops of the city.

  • Time for local flavours

Spätzle and Maultaschen are a science in their own right. You can get the classic variants almost everywhere, but how about with salmon, currywurst or shepherd’s style? Then you should head for Rolands Maultaschen just around the corner. Or try Gasthaus Bären with Swabian specialties in tapas size – the perfect way to try them all. Not to forget the over 100-year-old Market Hall with 43 different stalls and endless culinary experiences just waiting to be discovered.

  • Off the beaten track

The Bohnenviertel is full of small shops, galleries and quaint wine bars. The name (“Bean Quarter”) comes from the fact that this was once the poorer part of town and the people would grow fava beans as a cheap and fast-growing source of food.

  • Rest in peace

Presidents, industrialists, publishers, even the personal physician to the Japanese imperial family – they’re all buried at the Waldfriedhof. The cemetery is especially beautiful in May when the rhododendron bushes are in bloom. Getting there is an adventure in itself – with the Stuttgart Standseilbahn funicular railway.
