Already in the Middle Ages, the fourth largest city in Lower Saxony was a junction of important trade routes. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that numerous companies have settled in and around this lively city.

Taking an interesting guided tour through the old town or exploring the city in a double-deck bus – there’s a lot to see in Osnabrück. Our advice: Get the Osnabrück CityCard that will grant you free admission to the city’s museums and serve as a ticket for the public transports. The Osnabrück app is a useful pocket guide, to make sure that you won’t miss out on anything – the app even shows free parking spaces.

Green city

Osnabrück is the only large German city that lies in a nature and geopark, the UNESCO Global Geopark Terra.vita. At Piesberg close to the city you may discover sequoias and fossils from prehistoric times – a special adventure, particularly for kids. The botanical gardens with the huge palm house in two former stone pits are definitely also worth visiting.
Many talents

Osnabrück is home to famous artists, authors and even to a former federal president. Erich Maria Remarque, one of the most widely read authors of the 20th century, is one of these authors. The Felix-Nussbaumhaus shows the most comprehensive collection of the work of the painter who was born in Osnabrück. The museum itself is also impressive. It was built according to the plans of the famous architect Daniel Libeskind. Currently, Robin Schulz, who also comes from Osnabrück, is responsible for the perfect sound in the world’s best clubs.
Eating like the locals

Osnabrück has made many tasty contributions to the famous Westphalian cuisine. The sweet and greasy Osnabrücker Springbrötchen, a kind of raisin bread, are always worth a little sin. If you prefer healthier food, you may want to try pumpernickel, the typical local rye bread. Ramanken, a turnip stew, or kale, which is a typical winter food, are traditional hearty meals. And you should definitely also try chocolates from Leysieffer Stammhaus in Krahnstrasse.
Taking a walk through the old town

The market place is a meeting place and the heart of the city. Here you will find the Old Townhall, the weighing house and St. Mary’s Church on the one side and colourful town houses on the other side. Every year, there’s a Christmas market and the annual hobby horse parade that celebrates the anniversary of Treaty of Westphalia. You may go window-shopping and browse through many small individual shops between Heger Tor, townhall and the old-town’s train station. The weekly market, where many regional and seasonal products are on offer, takes place once a week on Große Domsfreiheit square.
A short break

If you don’t have any time to explore the city, take a little walk in the Schlosspark directly next to the hotel or enjoy your lunch break on one of the numerous benches there. If you want to take a look behind the scenes, you may just go inside the castle which is a freely accessible administrative building today and look around.

Getting there

By train

Osnabrück main station is part of the railway network of the German Railways. ICE, IC, FLX, RE and RB regularly stop at the station. Take bus 81 or a taxi to get from the main station to the hotel.

By air

Münster/Osnabrück airport (FMO) is an approximately 30 minutes’ drive away. Alternatively, you may want to use a shuttle bus (line X15) of Stadtwerke Osnabrück to get to the airport. The bus stop Uni/OsnabrückHalle is 170 metres from the hotel.

By car

If you drive in the direction of Dortmund/Münster and Amsterdam/Rheine take the A30 in the direction of Osnabrück. Leave the A30 at the exit Osnabrück-Hellern/Mitte and, to reach you destination, continue for approx. 2.5 km in the direction of the city-centre. If you drive in the direction of Bremen, leave the A1 at the exit Osnabrück-Nord in the direction of Osnabrück. Turn right in the direction of the old town before the railway underpass, after approx. 2 km turn left onto the street Neuer Graben.

By bus

Take bus Bus 21 from the Central Omnibus Station at Osnabrück main station in the direction of Kreishaus/Zoo. Get off at the stop Uni/OsnabrückHalle, if you walk 50 metres in the direction out of town, you’ll find the hotel on the left side of the street.
