The Chocolate Girl

Everyone knows the Schokoladenmädchen ("Chocolate Girl") on the cocoa can of the Swiss artist Jean-Étienne Liotard. The painting, which was made in Vienna in 1744, was shortly afterwards bought in Venice directly from the artist and for the unique Dresden Pastel Cabinet of King August III. There it stood out because of its size, frame and motif: the depiction of a simple, unknown maid was extremely rare at that time. The current exhibition in the Gemäldegalerie provides an exemplary insight into the artist's diverse work.

Idyllic fountains in the heart of the city

Of course, the Zwinger has to form part of every city tour. Many tourists also choose to listen to the glockenspiel, visit the Old Masters Gallery or perhaps explore the Technical Museum. But only few people check out the romantic Nymphenbad behind the French Pavilion of the Zwinger. It is one of the most beautiful baroque fountains. If you visit the Zwinger, a side trip to the Nymphenbad is an absolute must.

From Dresden Hauptbahnhof (central station):
From the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof), take tram no. 3 towards Wilder Mann and get off at Synagoge.
From Mitte station:
From Mitte station, take tram no. 1 or 2 towards Dresden Prohlis or Kleinzschachwitz and get off at Altmarkt.

From Dresden Neustadt (train station):
From the railway station, take tram no. 3 towards Dresden Coschütz and get off at Synagoge.

By air

From the Dresden Airport, take train line S2 towards Pirna and get off at the train station Bahnhof Mitte. Transfer to tram no. 1 or 2 towards Prohlis oder Kleinzschachwitz and get off at Altmarkt.

By car

Three motorways connect Dresden to the national and international road network. The A4 approaches Dresden from the west (Cologne-Eisenach-Chemnitz) and east (Wroclaw-Görlitz-Bautzen), the A13 comes from the north (Rostock-Berlin) and the A17 comes from Prague. From Magdeburg/Leipzig, Dresden can be reached via the A14 and A4. The city also lies on the federal roads B6, B97, B170, B172 and B173.
